It’s Good To Dream

desire to succeedThere are at least two definitions for the word dream – 1. a series of thoughts,
images, and sensations occurring in a person’s mind during sleep and, 2.-contemplating the possibility of doing something or that something might be the case. Either one of these things offers you a world of possibilities. The good news is that, whether they materialize or not, they give you hope.  It’s said that, our brain pulls together the information that we need and disregards the stuff that we don’t. Often I call this background noise. I seldom dream when I’m sleeping and when I do, I generally remember the dream for days to come. Often I have tried to interpret the dream or have shared the dream with someone in hopes of getting it interpreted. My point is, dreaming opens up a world of adventure that you might not otherwise explore.

At best, dreaming can challenge us to do bigger things, follow our passions, challenge ourselves and maybe even make a difference in the world. Most of us, including me, live well below our potential. We often think we are doing great things but, if we were to tap into the things we dream about, we would be doing so much more.  Of course, I don’t want to make any new years resolutions. I despise them.  But, I tell you of a truth, in 2016, I will be pursuing some of the dreams I have only talked and thought about. If not now, when? If not me then who?  Oprah has a new commercial out for weight watchers where she says, “If not now, when”. It’s been resonating with me and my dreams. Look up and live is what I have been hearing every day. WHAT ABOUT YOU? WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH YOUR DREAMS?  #Dream

images Life has taught me to realize that people can often leave you with a feeling of dissolution. They pull on you emotionally, mentally, spiritually and physically for their own agenda.  In fact, if you’re not careful, you look up, and your days have been spent doing it their way.  What I love about a good sense of self, self-worth and love, yes I meant to say what I love about love, is that it drives away all fear.  Fear equals; doubt, shame, embarrassment, disappointment, mediocrity, ignorance, depression, etc., etc., etc.  Well, you get the idea. Anything opposite of love is fear. If it’s not fear itself, it produces fear and, therefore, is the bi-product of fear.  I’m just glad I understand what drives me and why I love.  Yes, I’m still discovering what I love, but in doing so, I refuse to stop being love or receiving love.  I listened to the new Foresight CD by Stephen Kee-Author and, it reminded me of love.  “What’s it all about Alfie?” image001

At the end of the day the CD makes you laugh, cry, smile and definitely ponder life.  It challenges you to live from the inside out and, to be authentic in your responses.   Being honest about where you find yourself in life is a natural expectation after hearing this CD. The lyrical composition, sultry jazz of Terri Kee and acoustic funk forces you to let your creative juices flow.  You can’t help but to tap into you. More than anything, this CD makes you realize you are no “STRANGER” to life.  It challenges you to live from the inside out and, reminds you to get out of your “COMFORT ZONE”. Moreover, you realize, you are “BETTER THAN THIS”. Stephen’s wife Stacy’s decision to sing on the CD reminds us that love and trust are one. Yeah Man!

I Don’t Fuss With My Hair!

I DON’T FUSS WITH MY HAIR ANYMORE – The older I get the more I realize it’s just hair. I use to argue with my hair. I would tell it, go left, go right, go up, go down, make curls or be straight. When I was really angry I would tell it, “It’s my way or the highway”. That generally meant weave.

TODAY I DON’T FUSS WITH MY HAIR – When I wake up in the morning my hair tells me where it’s going. It tells me if it’s going left or going right, if it’s going up or going down. My hair tells me if it will make curls, or if it want to be straight.

FINALLY – Some days it decides not to cooperate at all and, we decide together. I’ve learned to laugh and simply say, I love you. IT’S JUST HAIR!

Real Women.RealTalk Live

a new dayEXPRESS YOURSELF!After all that I’ve been through, I can still say yes. Yes to His will, Yes to His way. The thought comes to me that looking or being normal is overrated.  Besides, if I am to finish the book I started in 1986, I know, a long time coming; you would have read that the title is “Trying to Survive in a World Called Normal”.   Discovering who we are meant to be can be an uphill battle when your beginning did not come with instructions or, parents that were already routed and grounded in a belief. In other words, there are many people that for whatever reason started life with what I would call an unusual upbringing, unusual to me because it was not mine.  However, that doesn’t mean it was not normal. Normal is overrated. Many of you go day in and day out trying to live life the way others have decided life should be lived. This is primarily because you may not have ever been told that you were perfect as you are that, the only changes needed in your life were the changes God made not man. In trying to obtain this normalcy, you may have gone through many unnecessary things afraid to be who you really are. The “You” you were meant to be. At this point in life, you realize who you are who you are, and you find yourself challenged with the question internally of what should I do with my life?  To you I say “EXPRESS YOURSELF”. It’s never too late to walk in your own shoes.

Excerpt taken from my book “Trying To Survive In A World Called Normal” – to be released in 2016.
